CM: My dad grew up on Long Plain Reserve. He was a court communicator for many years.

DL: What’s a court communicator?

CM: A court communicator was someone that helped the Native people in court. And he also, in the latter part of his life, got the Order of Canada, and the Order of Canada is the highest order that Canada can give its members.

DL: Why did he receive that; what did he do?

CM: He received that because of the work that he did with the Native and the non-native people, especially the women and the children. His work was to always bridge that gap between the Native and the non-native people and working towards a good relationship with both peoples.
